FAQ
What is a Bareboat Charter?
A bareboat charter means renting a yacht or sailing boat without a crew. The charterer (you) are responsible for the navigation and handling of the yacht, and you’ll need the appropriate qualifications to operate the vessel. This type of charter offers you the freedom and flexibility to explore at your own pace, with no crew on board.
Most of our bareboat yachts can accommodate up to 10-12 people, making it ideal for private groups or families. The cost "per person" of a bareboat charter is often more affordable than a resort vacation—without the crowds!
Discover how accessible and exciting this unique adventure can be with Skyfall Yacht Charter. Let us help you plan your perfect sailing escape!
What Qualifications Do I Need to Charter a Bareboat Sailing Yacht in Greece?
In order to rent a bareboat charter in Greece, the local regulations require that two crew members must be capable of commanding the vessel.
-
Skipper Qualifications:
-
The skipper must hold an appropriate, recognized sailing certificate or demonstrate membership in a recognized sailing club.
-
ASA (American Sailing Association) and RYA (Royal Yachting Association) certifications are fully accepted.
-
If the certificate is issued outside of the EU, it must be accompanied by an official translation into either Greek or English.
-
In some cases, an official declaration from the charterer stating the skipper's competence may be required, depending on the judgment of the local harbor authority.
-
-
Co-Skipper Qualifications:
-
The co-skipper must have a certification similar to the one required for the skipper.
-
Alternatively, the co-skipper may submit a signed self-declaration of competence to the port authority.
-
Note: A sailing license or certificate is defined as the official documentation recognized by the charterer’s home country. Additionally, a sailing experience declaration may be requested for both the skipper and co-skipper by local port authorities.
Skippered Yacht Charters
All of our yachts are available for skippered charters, making them the perfect option for those who are either not qualified or simply prefer to have a relaxed vacation without the responsibility of sailing the boat themselves.
With a skippered yacht charter, you can fully enjoy the experience and let a professional handle the navigation, allowing you to focus on relaxation, adventure, and discovering the beauty of the Greek islands.
